Dear Friends of Hospice,
Every story has a beginning….ours was Virginia Fuller….an early patient of Talbot Hospice.
Virginia was the mother-in-law of Midge Menzies and a dear friend of Leslie Ware. After her passing in 1984 Leslie &
Midge walked into the small Talbot Hospice office located in the Talbot County Health Department in Easton with a
dream and a mission. Their mission was to provide financial support for Talbot Hospice, to educate the community
about Hospice care and to plan and execute a fundraising event that would become an annual tradition for all families in Talbot County. That dream and mission became Friends of Hospice and the Festival of Trees.
Fast Forward 35 years….
- Friends of Hospice…… has raised a total of nearly $3.5 million in support of Hospice through many special
events, in particular its week-long Festival of Trees every November.
- Friends of Hospice….…has helped to inform our community that Hospice Care is a unique philosophy of health
care for those facing a life-limiting illness that addresses the physical symptoms and the emotional, social and
spiritual issues as well.
- Friends of Hospice…. annually hosts the Festival of Trees….a family event during the Thanksgiving holiday where
chairpersons, generous sponsors and volunteers come together to put on a spectacular week of events for all
families in our community.
- Friends of Hospice …celebrates the 35th Annual Festival of Trees! We are excited to once again co-chair this
Holiday Tradition in our community.
The 2020 Festival of Trees Theme….…”The Red, The White & The Blue” will be a
Celebration of an American Christmas that reflects the best of the American Spirit.
We, along with The Friends of Hospice Board and Talbot Hospice, have been monitoring the situation of the COVID19 virus and how it may effect the annual Festival of Trees, the Preview Party, the 35th Anniversary Gala, Carols by
Candlelight, Poinsettia sales and the Hospice 5K Santa Run. All these events historically attract large groups. From
what we know now, and for the health and safety of our community, committee chairs, sponsors and hundreds of
volunteers – FRIENDS OF HOSPICE WILL BE HOSTING THE 2020 FESTIVAL OF TREES in a NEW FORMAT this
THE FESTIVAL OF TREES will not take place in the Gold Room of the Tidewater Inn this year. The 35th Anniversary of the Festival
of Trees will be celebrated with an ALL AMERICAN CRYSTAL BALL NON-EVENT in November.
POINSETTIAS will be sold through a mailing, the Talbot Hospice newsletter, talbothospice.org And festival-of-trees.org.
CHRISTMAS TREES ranging from 12” to 36” will be beautifully decorated and sold at a designated location.
If large outside gatherings are once again deemed “safe”, the following outside events will take place:
CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT – Saturday, November – 6:00 – In front of the Tidewater Inn – Complimentary candles
will be given and an ALL AMERICAN 20’ CHRISTMAS TREE will be lit to welcome in the Holiday Season and to celebrate the coming together of our community and country.
HOSPICE 5K SANTA RUN – Saturday, November 28, 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Idlewild Park Entry Fee $30.00
We thank you for your understanding and for supporting Friends of Hospice for 35 years through the Festival of
Trees. We ask for your continued support during these challenging times.
