Shakespeare Midsummer Stage Returns for Second Summer
Registration Now Open for Youth Workshop at OCC
OXFORD, MD – March 16, 2026 – Tred Avon Players (TAP) and the Oxford Community Center
(OCC) are excited to announce the return of Shakespeare Midsummer Stage, an immersive
youth theater workshop for students entering grades 5–12.
The workshop runs July 27–31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily at OCC, culminating in a
free evening performance on Friday, July 31 at 6:00 p.m. (5:30 p.m. call time).
Led by veteran actor, director, and educator David Cherry, the program introduces Shakespeare
through games, voice and movement exercises, and scene study. Students build confidence,
creativity, and collaboration skills while exploring the fun and accessibility of Shakespeare’s
language.
Last summer, students performed scenes from Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Much
Ado About Nothing, delighting family and friends. Students cited performing scenes as their
favorite part of the workshop, and parents and grandparents praised the program for helping
participants gain confidence and stage presence in a short amount of time.
“We were inspired by the growth and enthusiasm we saw in just one week,” said Cherry.
“Students embraced the language and discovered that Shakespeare can be exciting and
accessible. We’re excited to build on that momentum this year.””
“Shakespeare Midsummer Stage gives young actors a chance to discover their voices, explore
their creativity, and grow both on stage and off,” said Alison Lynch, President of Tred Avon
Players. “We love seeing students gain confidence while connecting with their peers through the
magic of theater.”
The workshop fee is $250 per student, which includes a t-shirt. Sign up early, space is limited.
Registration closes June 1, 2026.
